Nokia N8 releasing in a few weeks says Dolby
The long wait for the Nokia N8 looks like coming to an end in just a few weeks. That’s when Dolby, the guys behind the N8’s surround sound skills told one site that the Symbian^3 device will be arriving – just in time for Nokia World 2010.
Nokia fans have been waiting very patiently for what looks like being one of Nokia’s best, most feature-packed smartphones to date. While we don’t yet have a fixed date for the N8, the guys at Dolby, who developed the Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound feature of the N8 told gadget site Electricpig here in London that the N8 will be arriving mid-September.
That puts the N8 squarely in line with this year’s Nokia World 2010 event, which takes place between September 14-15, in, you’ve guessed it – London! Was it obvious all along?
The Nokia N8 is Nokia’s first to run the overhauled Symbian^3 operating system. It has a 12-megapixel camera, 16GB internal memory, HDMI output, can shoot 720p high definition video, and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound when connected to a television with a compatible 5.1 surround sound speaker set-up. Not long to wait now.

Nokia N8 Offers 180% Performance Boost Over N97 Read: Nokia N8 Offers 180% Performance Boost Over N97
The Nokia N8 may be the most anticipated Nokia smartphone in years. A website has gotten their hands on an advance unit and ran some benchmarking tests on the Symbian^3 smartphone. Big surprise – it’s a lot faster than it’s predecessors.
FinestFones.com has gotten their hands on a Nokia N8 and used the Symbian app “Speedy Go!” on the device, measuring the device’s speed. Unsurprisingly, it blew the older Nokia N97 out of the water. Speedy Go! found that the Nokia N8 had a 54% improvement over the Samsung Omnia HD Symbian device, and a 180% increase on the Nokia N97. (I’d like to see the Nokia N8 go head to head with the N900. I have a feeling that would be a much fairer fight – but the N900 runs Maemo.)
According to Mr. X, who writes at FinestFones, Symbian^3 can take better advantage of a phone’s graphics processing power than Symbain S60, which explains the drastic performance increases. Then, Mr. X used a Symbian app called “FPC Bench 3D” which put the Nokia N8 through a series of rendering tests. On all eight tests, the Nokia N8 achieved the maximum score, 60 fps.
It’s worth noting that the N8 could actually do better than these benchmarks. Like that Russian blogger who got his hands on a Nokia N8 earlier this year, Mr. X warned that his Nokia N8 was running an unfinished version of the Symbian^3. It’s also worth saying that Mr. X is breaking somebody’s embargo by publishing this content to the internet – those who were given advance N8′s still aren’t supposed to publish info about it publicly. Ooops.
Are you anticipating the Nokia N8? Do you think it can compete with the likes of Android phones, the iPhone, and BlackBerries?
Now we got a short video demonstrating Nokia N8 smartphone browser. The video shows that the browser of the gadget supports kinetic scrolling and zooming with two fingers. However, when using the last item we have some visible serious brakes, which is not good.
The main advantage Nokia N8 of browser is the fact that it includes the ability to play Flash-videos, which used to be something missing in the previous models. Recall, that the device will go on sale in some regions this fall.
Satio versus N8
Over the years I can recollect Sony Ericssonand Nokia have been fierce competitors with their outstanding Phones and over the last two years with their Smart Phones.
Firstly Nokia produced the Nokia 5800 and a little while later Sony Ericsson came up with an outstanding Smart Phone Satio to rival theNokia 5800. This then led Nokia to come back with the N900 running on the Maemo OS, Sony Ericsson then released two Smart Phones the Aino and Elm.
Enough of that lets get down to the nitty gritty of comparing our beloved Sony Ericsson Satio against theNokia N8.
With the Satio been out now about 8 months,Nokia have had a quite a bit of time to find out what are the bad points of Symbian s60v5, obviously they have taken a close look because the Nokia N8 has the newSymbian^3 OS.
Camera
The Satio compares very well to the Nokia N8 with the Camera, both Phones have a 12 megapixel camera, both have Xenon Flash, however the N8 as HD video recording facilities.
Nokia have paid particular attention to Facebook in the Phone integrating it in to the N8, seeing that the majority of users are using Facebook on their Smart Phones. When Sony Ericsson Updated the Firmware about 6 weeks they ago integrated Facebook on to the Satio.
Multitouch
Whilst the N8 has multi touch the Satio does not, Nokiahave integrated the pinch movement(which looks very similar to Apples iPhone) into the new OS.
Conclusion
Overall the N8 dare I say it is a better Phone in most departments then the Satio, but Nokia have had a lot to learn from, with the Nokia 5800 and the Sony Ericsson Satio.
In my opinion if you are Sony Ericsson Lover or a Nokia Lover you will stay with whichever you like

Initial Impressions Of The Nokia N8:
Nokia has a lot riding on the N8, not only is its market share in jeopardy but perhaps more importantly its down in the mindshare and brand perception department. The idea that Nokia can no longer make a decent high-end smartphone, fuelled by the media is causing serious damage to its reputation. While this is not the case in countries like India, the fact that they were late to the dual SIM party has not helped things. Nokia hopes that the N8 will mark the start of that turn around, and in this post I examine if that is a relevant possibility.
First things first, my initial impressions are based on a proto N8 running the pre PR 1.0 v11.004 firmware so things might change (hopefully for the better) by the time it hits stores. As soon as you pickup the N8, you get a feel of premium. The build quality is nothing short of excellent and the whole metal finish really stands out. All the different N8 colours pop out and each has the power to attract a hoard of fans. As I saw for myself, the anodized aluminum construction is also highly scratch resistant, you can take a pen and scratch it without there being even a simple mark caused and if you like taking care of your phone, this is very heartening to see.

Silverlight for Bing App N8
"Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework for building media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web on desktop computers, is now available for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices such as Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 Mini."
Well, finally Microsoft released Silverlight for Nokia S60 5th edition smarpthones, and with the release of Silverlight comes the Bing Application based on Silverlight as you might guess. What exactly Silverlight means for the Nokia S60 5th edition smartphone owners, I am not sure, but I personally do not have some craving for Silverlight just for the fact that Silverlight is not used on many websites and the one's that use it, are orbiting very closely to Microsoft.
The upside of this is that now you will be able to view Silverlight content right from your Nokia S60 browser, which is a big plus. Other than that and the new Bing application, currently I don't see other uses for Silverlight on my Nokia N97, but this might be just for now. Who knows, maybe in time as more and more people start developing apps and content using Silverlight, I might be not as skeptical as I am now.

Control the Nokia N8 with a Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard
Nokia N8 is coming to the stores next month and the whole marketing actions will start soon. here is another proof what the N8 is capable of.
As you can see in the video, you can pair and control the N8 with a Nokia BT keyboard: Nokia SU-8W and a BT mouse. just imagine what you can do, when you connect it to a TV ot monitor via HDMI... :-)
i think, there are other BT devices possibble to pair as long as they're compatible with that bluetooth stack. we'll see, when the N8 is actually available.

DivX Mobile Player 1.0 for N8
The long wait is finally over and the first official app by DivX for Symbian devices is out and ready to support Symbian both S60 3rd edition and 5th edition in the 1.0 version. So you can now finally enjoy your DivX movies in your pocket especially on your Nokia S60v5 devices. But I can’t guarantee anything will be smoother as some of the hardware of our devices could give you some headaches.
Anyways, I was able to play an .avi file in my Nokia N97 mini but not so smooth in start. You could just play divx files with a screen resolution not exceeding your phone’s screen resolution. The maximum screen resolution of some Nokia Symbian 5th edition devices is 640 x 360, not sure with S60v3 though, and most .avi files are on this resolution so converting will not make you more nuts on this. Just transfer the files and play, done!
The sound quality is what I should praise for because I was able to hear crisp audio output. As well as the interface of the application. You can download the application for free that is in beta phase on the DivX labs site which will expire somehow. Merci to our friends over at blog-n97 for the heads up.

Nokia N8 connected with 250GB hard drive
One of Nokia N8’s coolest feature is USB On-The-Go, which lets you connect USB peripherals to the N8 and allows you then to access the data on the flash drive or hard drive. At an preview-event in Vienna, Nokia representatives connected the Nokia N8, which is about two months away from release, to a 250GB hard drive. Some of you may ask why one would need such a feature and especially 250GB of storage. One good example is a two week trip during which you have no computer in order to save all those HD videos and 12 megapixel pictures. With this USB On-The-Go feature you can easily, with an USB-to-USB adapter cord, transfer your data both ways.

Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4
First of all, let’s face the inconvenient truth that there is no perfect smartphone in this planet, but still we could consider that there is one smartest out there. Both Nokia N8 and iPhone 4 are candidates, so we will see if which part of my lists does Nokia N8 really standout against iPhone 4.
Nokia N8 06 Nokia N8 vs iPhone 4 – Ten Things Why Nokia N8 Is Better
Price
One of the biggest advantage of Nokia N8 over the iPhone 4 is the price. With the price tag of €370 euros before taxes and subsidies, and converting it to pounds would give us £300. Comparing to the iPhone 4 (unlocked) 16GB with a price of £499 and £599 for 32GB. Therefore making the Nokia N8 much cheaper for a smartphone with cool multimedia features and especially Symbian^3 os.
Design
We admit that the iPhone 4 is slimmer, but there are consequences on this, like on the camera performance e.g. zooming and sensor size. For the color variants of Nokia N8, the mass is already have a wide choice for their taste on the color. There are currently 5 anodized casing for N8 the dark grey, silver white, green, blue and orange For the iPhone 4, there are two the white and the black (no pun intended) and obviously I don’t like that my phone is mistakenly identified by others as an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch.
Video Call
The limitations of Apple facetime for the Wi-Fi connection and iPhone to iPhone is what Nokia already solved and made possible long time ago to their devices. So in N8 you will not be bounded by connections and you will get connected for the video calls in any capable devices.
HDMI + Dolby Surround
Another one few specs that a 2010 smartphone have is the HDMI connection where you can connect to your home theatre. With HD TV you will get a crisp and clear visual treatment as well as with your sound with the Dolby Digital Plus.
Memory
The Nokia N8 has a 16GB internal storage plus giving you a chance to add an external hot swappable microSD card up to 32GB.
USB On-the-Go
If 48GB of storage is not enough for you then consider this USB on-the-go feature where you can read and make slave USB sticks from external hard drive like on this 250GB hdd.
Usability (Reception issue)
If you’re afraid to get a bad reception just because of the phone’s inability to not allow you to have a proper grip, well, isn’t that obvious that this could be one of the biggest mistake that Cupertino company made? Eventhough Nokia N8 isn’t launched yet, we all know that this Finnish giant have more than 1 billion of devices out there and we never have the incidents where people protests just because of the reception issue.
Sensor
To have the biggest camera sensor in the field of camera phones—and even bigger than the other p&s cameras—means that we are having the right innovations. By the size of the N8 and to its one of a kind features, it really shows that this is an advance feature that Nokia N8 will hold against competitors.
Xenon flash
It is still a strong advert of manufacturers that LED flash can provide you enough light for taking pictures. But it is still a fact that xenon flash are the one who leads in the technology of flash for compact cameras as well as to mobile phones. What Nokia did is they reduced the size of the flash to 30% less compare to Nokia N82 & without losing the power.
Editing software & Ovi Maps are free (Symbian^3)
If you’re phone has an HD capable video recording and Symbian^3 on N8 has an on-board video editor and without pulling some extra bucks from your pocket, of course. The same on Ovi Maps, neither we need a connection nor we would pay for it. That is really the magic of Nokia, bringing us connected anywhere and anytime.
Reasons why I should wait for Nokia N8
I like Nokia N8 so much and that’s:
* Because N8 is the first Nokia phone to have a 12 MP and also it is the successor for the N86 and N82. N8 CameraWith Xenon attached on N8, night shots would be never a problem anymore. We should not also forget on how Carl Zeiss added the superb optics flavour in N82 and that’s why it became legendary camera phone of Nokia. This is getting more exciting in the new N8 because of the reduced Xenon flash and a more promising Carl Zeiss optics. Now I will not worry for cropping the image and printing it to large materials.
* Because it will record and play HD videos. Aside from crisp photos, we will get also a video recording capabilities in HD!
* Because N8 has the biggest camera sensor from the field of camera phones and other compact cameras. An astonishing 1/1.8″ Sensor. It has also a 1.75µm pixel size which gives better performance in low light. The bigger and the larger in numbers means better. These are how the 12MP will be useful.
* Because it is Symbian^3 and you will actually notice that the home screen are similar to the Symbian^1 inForum Nokia N97 and N97 mini. The cool stuff here is we will get 4 homescreen on the new N8. Plus adding more to excitement is the new UI on the phone. I saw the gallery and editing features and I was really amazed on the changes and the speed is noticeably have improved on N8.
* Because this is cool, the USB OTG! Another thing is the way that N8 can make our usb sticks and storage a slave. I don’t need to transfer my files on the computer before reaching the N8. I can also just add movies and songs directly to N8 from a USB drive.
* Because HD tvs and projectors are everywhere and I can finally stream or play high quality videos in the big screens.
* Because I always watch TV. I’m really an avid subscriber of National Geographic and CNN and I am really happy with the new features of N8. I can bring N8 anywhere and watch my favorite channels. Of course, this will be more exciting because of the OLED screen of Nokia N8.
* Because I can’t pick the right color for me until now. I can’t pick on what exact color to get on Nokia nokia n8 smartphone 157x118 Reasons why I should wait for Nokia N8N8 and this is a big problem yet fun! All colors are really attractive and the more I wait the more I rattle in choosing the right color for me. Anodized materials offers comfy feelings in my hands and giving more durability. But here’s a dark grey N8 gallery.
* Because of my gaming capabilities. My first Nseries devices was N81 and I bought it with the reason I love gaming. Ngage 2.0 was good but it will be better if it will be put in a device with a fast and powerful hardwares and N8 has the future. I really love watching tires rubbing to the concrete of highways.
* Because it is affordable. I mentioned lots of cool features of N8 and yet the price of N8 is really affordable! Who can imagine that all these features with a price tag of 370 Euro (before taxes and subsidies).
That’s the few things why I like N8 and love to wait for it. I hope some of you have the same sentiment on mine. lols.
Thanks:Symbian World Dot ORG
Nokia N8 review: First look
It may seem a little strange that the viewing was hosted by Dolby, but it becomes quite clear when you see that the N8 is primarily a smartphone (of course) but with a strong leaning toward being a multimedia powerhouse.
A few journalists/pundits got to see - and touch - a number of very early N8 prototypes. Not everything worked at peak performance yet, as expected with early hardware and software. But the video worked just fine.
We all watched a number of movie trailers coming from the N8, all with Dolby surround sound encoding (you knew they had to be involved with the phone in some manner). That was very, very impressive, as was the video quality and the audio playback.
Here's a quick sample video showing the N8 connected to an HD TV via the included HDMI adapter:
For those who don't know, the N8 will be the first device to run on Nokia/Symbian's next-generation operating system dubbed Symbian ^3.
We have no idea how to pronounce the ^ if you're saying that out loud.
At first glance it looked a lot like the last Symbian operating system with some N900 features thrown in for good measure. We'll know a lot more when we get to see a final release version of the phone.
The Nokia N8 looks like a thinner version of the company's Maemo OS-powered N900 smartphone, except the N900 has a real, hardware QWERTY keyboard and the N8's is the virtual type.
There's also a bit of iPhone-esque thought in here too. The N8 is the first Nokia device we can recall equipped with a battery that cannot be swapped out by the user. It also lacks physical send and end keys, a design attribute not common to Nokia handsets.
The N8 is a true GSM world phone. It will work on any GSM network on the planet, whether 2G or 3G.
Nokia says the handset is capable of delivering as much as 12 hours of battery life (from the 1200mAh unit inside) via GSM connections and nearly 6 hours on 3G. If that's true, and battery life approaches that of its E72, then this would be a very strong selling point for the new phone.
